“EntreAmigos is the soul of this town. If your heart beats with San Pancho you will definitely like this community project”. – Jordi

I’ve been a fan of this project since learning about it a year ago, and was so excited to come back to this vibrant place. In a little town San Pancho (San Fransisco, Nayarit state) locals have started The Community Education Center Entre Amigos. The government allowed to use a giant abandoned warehouse and it’s been turned into a community space that now operates a library, computer center, an art gallery store, a scholarship program, after school programs, workshops, a recycling program and much more!

Very interesting part of this community is the awareness they want to make about how much waste we produce and how we can downgrade or recycle it. The staff is very environmental conscious and the building is made with an organizational commitment to re-use 100% of waste and to use at least 80% recycled materials in the construction of all internal furnishings.

It’s the funny details and the use of simple objects what makes this building so special. Like walls made of empty plastic bottles. Doors made from pan covers or crates on the wall, which serve as a bookshelf. See how easily creative you can be?

The gallery store showcases and sells the work of local artisans. My favorites are the recycled bottle glasses. Recicla San Pancho Goods organize recycling pick ups at local restaurants, businesses and schools collecting glass, aluminium and plastic. Women make belts and bracelets from soda can tabs, purses, picture frames and collage art from magazines, jewelry boxes from newspaper and orange peels and many other amazing products from items that were previously disregarded as trash.
